Janet Smith, APR

Founder and President

In 1999, Janet started a full-service public relations firm, Expansion Communications. Before that, she was the assistant vice president of public relations for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City for nearly 15 years.

Janet has been involved with the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) since moving to the Kansas City area in 1984, and is accredited in public relations through that organization. Through the Kansas City PRSA Chapter, Janet was named Kansas City’s Public Relations Professional of the Year in 1992, and received the Distinguished Service Award in 2006. She is honored to be the only public relations professional who has been the recipient of the chapter’s two top awards. She has a degree in marketing with an emphasis in management from Webster University, St. Louis.

Janet has won numerous awards for work in the communications field and has spoken nationally on topics including reputation management, internal communications, and crisis communications.
